    Broaden Your Perspective through Cultural Research

    Study the history and evolution of people from diverse cultures with a bachelor's in anthropology from the University at Albany. Our curriculum will provide you with analytical and observational skills to begin a career in anthropology or to pursue professional opportunities in fields like medicine, business, law, education, journalism, human resources, and public policy.

    You will have the opportunity to study past and present cultures in areas from Northeastern North America to Mesoamerica through hands-on research programs with expert anthropology faculty.

    • Acquire Increased awareness and understanding of human biological, linguistic and cultural diversity.
    • Understand principles, assumptions, terminology of human evolutionary studies, human fossil record, primate anatomy/ behavior, evolutionary forces/ bio. bases of human behaviors, scientific method applied to human past.
    • Understand principles, assumptions, terminology used in major sub-areas of linguistics: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, acquisition and socio-linguistics.
    • Acquire ability to perform written anthropological analysis of a particular topic.
    • Understand basic assumptions, principles, terminology, and methods of cultural anthropology, (culture, holism, ethnographic fieldwork, comparative method in ethnology).
    • Understand methods and approaches of archaeological study of past societies, and data for outlines of world prehistory.
    • Gain an understanding of what is a four-field approach to anthropology.

    Entry Requirements

    All applicants must arrange for their official school and/or college transcripts to be sent to us.

    • First-year (freshmen) applicants: You must submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

    • Transfer applicants: You must submit official transcripts of all college and/or university work, even if you don't expect to receive transfer credit. If you've completed fewer than 24 transferable college credits, you'll also need to submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

    If you are admitted, you will also need to submit an official final transcript from your secondary school showing your date of graduation.

    Academic transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official, certified English translation.

    Transcript Evaluation 

    A transcript evaluation allows the review committee to correctly compare the quality of your school, coursework and grades with all other applicants. 

    Although not required, we accept SpanTran or WES evaluations sent from the organization directly to the University at Albany.

    Other evaluation services can only be used if they require official documents directly from the institution of higher education, not the student, to evaluate coursework. The organization must also be accredited by NACES.
