    Our Computing degree is designed to equip you with a solid, employability-focused overview of Computer Science and prepare you for your first professional role or to continue your studies, should you so choose.

    You will learn and hone skills in software development, networking and cyber security. The course is designed to allow to you to keep your options open as to which part of the diverse IT industry you want to specialise in, offering the core elements of computer science and modules to support specialisation in areas including Software Development, Internet and Cloud Applications, Network Administration and Technical Support.

    Courses at ARU Peterborough are designed to help you become a life-long learner, ready to pivot in your career and respond to changes in this fast-moving industry. When you graduate from this course, you will have developed your powers of autonomous and analytical thinking, learned the essential skills valued by employers in the IT sector and have experienced multi-disciplinary team-working which mirrors real-world industry standards.

    On this course you’ll spend lots of time in our dedicated computing labs in our brand new, purpose-built university building, in the heart of Peterborough. You’ll learn on industry-standard equipment and software on a course that we co-created with regional employers, so you can be confident that you’ll graduate with the skills in-demand in the sector.

    Academic entry requirements

    for students coming from Jordan to ARU

    For entry to a bachelor’s degree (year 1), we will consider the following qualifications:

    • A recognised foundation programme
    • International Baccalaureate Diploma
    • International Advanced Levels (A Levels)
    • Tawjihi with an average grade of 60% plus a Community College Certificate/Diploma with average 50%

    For entry to a master’s degree, we will consider the following qualifications:

    • A recognised pre-masters course
    • Bachelors degree with an overall CGPA of 2.5 or above
    For entry to a research degree, we will consider overseas qualifications equivalent to a UK Master’s degree. Please visit our postgraduate research pages for more information on the application requirements.

    If you don't hold one of the qualifications above, ARU College can help. ARU College provides foundation, first year and pre-Masters courses designed to prepare you for entry to your chosen degree.

    English Program Requirements

    If English is not your first language you will need to be able to show you have the required level of English language. This is so we can ensure you'll be able to follow your course.

    • Our standard entry criteria for undergraduate courses is IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with nothing lower than 5.5 in any of the four elements (listening, speaking, reading and writing).
    • Our standard entry criteria for postgraduate taught and postgraduate research courses is IELTS 6.5, with nothing lower than 5.5 in any of the four elements (listening, speaking, reading and writing).

    If you don't meet our English language requirements, our Language Centre offers a range of courses which could help you achieve the level required for entry onto a degree course.

    Career

    As a Computing graduate, you’ll have essential technical skills, and experience of addressing realistic challenges through live briefs, coursework, and projects.

    You’ll also have key transferable skills, such as team working, research and investigation, preparing documentation, giving presentations, and reporting on progress.

    Our free Employability Service will help you take practical steps to follow your chosen career path, secure jobs, and work experience, or even start your own business.

    Graduation doesn’t have to be the end of your time with us. You might decide to stay at ARU and study for a Masters. We’re planning a range of postgraduate degrees at ARU Peterborough, and there is a selection of existing courses in Cambridge and Chelmsford.

    Employability and personal career development

    Informed by employers, our courses support an integrated approach to employability. You’ll have opportunities to develop the skills and abilities they are looking for and gain a deeper understanding of how your academic learning relates to the world of work through Live Briefs and Ruskin Modules.
