    Applied Computing (Top Up) - BSc (Hons)

    About

    This one-year course includes core modules on databases, professionalism and a major individual project. You will also choose two specialist option modules, allowing you to focus on the topics that particularly interest you.

    Individual Project - Informatics
    This year-long individual project gives you the opportunity to explore a topic in real depth. Your project supervisor will support you as you progress from research, through design and implementation and finally to evaluation.

    Advanced Databases and Modelling
    Databases are a critical component in many modern IT systems. This module teaches you how to design database solutions to complex and realistic problems.

    Advanced Internet and Mobile Computing
    Modern web applications need to be interactive and they also need to be accessible using mobile devices. In this module you will develop the skills to design and create these types of applications.

    GIS and the Spatial Web
    Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are based on maps and location data. In this module you will learn how to apply a variety of GIS techniques and see how GIS can solve real world problems.

    Advanced Integrated Computing Devices
    In this module you will use Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to design and create solutions to practical problems in homes, workplaces and public spaces.

    The Computing Professional in Practice
    You’ve got the skills to work in the computing industry, but how do you apply these as a professional in the workplace? This module ensures you are ready to embark on your professional career.

    Academic Qualifications

    • Applicants who have completed a Diploma of Technician / Technical Diploma in a relevant subject can be considered for year 1 entry of an undergraduate degree
    • Applicants who have followed the IB Diploma curriculum can be considered for undergraduate entry – the normal UCAS tariff will be applied
    • Applicants who have followed the A-Level curriculum can be considered for undergraduate entry – the normal UCAS tariff will be applied

    Undergraduate Advanced Entry

    Students who have completed a 2 year Diploma or Associate Degree from a recognised institution can be considered for advanced entry onto the 2nd year of an undergraduate degree programme

    English Program Requirements

    English language requirements

    International applicants will need to have achieved an overall of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component/TOEFL 72 overall and a minimum of 18 in reading, 17 in listening, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing or equivalent.
