    Applied Geosciences

    About

The M.Sc. Applied Geosciences has its emphasis on the applied aspects of geosciences, with a geoscientific focus on environmental research. Building on a suitable bachelor's program, the master's program imparts knowledge, skills and competencies, especially in the fields of hydrogeology, environmental geochemistry, engineering geology, geothermal energy, applied mineralogy and atmospheric aerosol, in order to enable graduates to independently and responsibly work on issues related to the future topics of water, energy and environment. At the beginning of the Master's program, students choose one of two specializations (“Applied Geology” or “Environmental Geosciences”). Each of the specializations consists of a specially adapted compulsory or optional module.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

Applying with international qualifications (language requirements, application deadlines): International Admission. Requirements for admission to the Masters degree programme consist of a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Geosciences. Admission to the Masters Degree programme may also depend on additional requirements. Specific degree entrance requirements may be found here and in the competences description.

    English Program Requirements

You must pass the “Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang” (DSH-2) as evidence that your spoken and written command of the German language is adequate for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes for which the language of instruction is German.

Participating in the DSH at the Studienkolleg is subject to charge.

    Career

The labour market for geoscientists has been influenced by the ever-increasing demand for experts who grapple with timely issues of climate, water, energy, natural resources, soil and the environment. Given the knowledge of chemistry, physics, computer science, etc. they acquired during their studies, geoscientists are widely employable. They may be employed as hydrogeologists and engineering geologists in consulting or engineering firms, in government offices (e.g. Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe Federal Office of Geosciences and Natural Resources), with environmental, water and mining departments, or with regional geological departments. Other areas of employment include natural resource and energy supply, and lastly, environmental protection. TU Darmstadt Career Services
