    Mathematics is the language of choice for an increasing number of career fields. Scientists, engineers, actuaries and financial planners use algebra, geometry, calculus and statistics.

    What Youll Learn at Weber

    Weber States mathematics major prepares you for graduate studies in related fields, while the applied mathematics major teaches you to apply mathematics in a variety of fields. The mathematics teaching major provides you with a foundation in teaching methods and perspectives, preparing you to teach mathematics in grades K–12.

    All of the mathematics degree programs cover concepts including:

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    1. A minimum of 120 credit hours.
    2. A minimum of 40 upper-division credit hours (courses numbered 3000 and above).
    3. A minimum of 30 hours in residency (WSU courses).
    4. At least a 2.0 (C) WSU grade point average (GPA).
    5. Completion of WSU general education, diversity, major and minor requirements.
    6. One of the following bachelor’s degrees must be specified and the WSU general education, major and minor requirements completed. Some departments may specify completion of specific general education courses.
      • Bachelor of Arts (BA)
      • Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)
        This degree may be earned only by Visual Arts majors; see the Visual Arts Department  section for the application process.

    English Program Requirements

    • ENGLISH PROFICIENCY: Weber State offers an English Language Program (LEAP) for students who have not taken the TOEFL or IELTS, or who have scores below the requirements. A conditional acceptance letter can be issued for most programs. For admission to an academic program of study, you must complete one of the following:
      • TOEFL: 500 paper-based or 61 internet-based (please request official results sent to
      • WSU using school code 4941).
      • IELTS: 6.0 overall with a minimum score of 5.0 on each section.
      • SAT Critical Reading score of 420.
      • ACT English score of 17.
      • Completion of the International Baccalaureate Diploma at an accredited high school
      • Attended a U.S. high school for at least 3 years.
      • Received a grade of “C” or better in a college-level English Composition Course (equal to WSU’s English 1010) at an accredited U.S. college or university.
      • DUOLINGO English Test: Score of 50 or above (test dates BEFORE July 15, 2019).
      • DUOLINGO English Test: Score of 90 or above.

    • Submit the following:
      • Official high school transcripts or GED documentation.
      • ACT/SAT scores (These aren’t mandatory. They help determine math and English placement).
      • Official transcripts from any college or university where you have completed work, including concurrent enrollment and early college.
