    About

    Do you want to study music or creative sound production in your home region, in any genre or style, and prepare yourself for the music industry of the future? If so, then this BA (Hons) Applied Music course has been designed for you. Studying traditional, Celtic, pop, jazz, classical, rock, and now creative sound production, this course will give you the opportunity to explore the culture of the Highlands and Islands and focus your study towards the application of music in a variety of professional contexts. Designed and delivered by professional musicians, educators and industry experts, this dynamic and highly innovative practical degree addresses the modern needs of the professional musician and sound producer. You will study with top individuals in their fields, to develop skills in performance, education, recording, creative production, business, enterprise, networking and communication which will help you access opportunities nationally, in Europe and the USA. Our staff, students and alumni have built strong communities of practice throughout Scotland, from the Highlands and Islands - rich in traditional cultures - to the dynamic musical clusters in Glasgow and Scotland's central belt. The programme has a strong profile of graduate success within the music industry, with many employed in performance, educational contexts, touring, creative sound production, research and music business.

    Our programmes are taught and examined in English. To make the most of your studies, you must be able to communicate fluently and accurately in spoken and written English in an academic environment and provide certified proof of your competence before starting your course. Please note that English language tests need to have been taken no more than two years prior to the start date of the course. The minimum English language requirements to study at the University of the Highlands and Islands are detailed below:

    Eligible EU students, with pre-settled or settled status in the UK, will be considered as home students for fee purposes and will be charged the Scotland-domiciled fee rate, which may be covered by the Scottish Government. To find out more please visit www.saas.gov.uk This course is not available to students domiciled outside of the UK or for international students requiring Student Route visa sponsorship to study here. Students living in the UK and assessed as international for fee status will pay the fees as listed above. EU student commencing their studies from 2021-22 academic year, who do not have pre-settled or settled status in the UK, will be considered as international for tuition fee purposes.
