    About

One of the primary responsibilities of the physics department is to educate the next generation of scientists, engineers and scientifically informed citizenry through research-intensive education in the physical sciences and related technologies. The program provides students with critical interdisciplinary knowledge - offering a general physics option with a broad exposure to several major areas of physics. Students of the program will also be able to advance their studies through double major in Computer Science and Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics and Applied Physics (B.S. programs) options.

Through their coursework and research focuses, students of the Applied Physics B.S. program will exhibit the following:

    • Understanding of the latest and most rapid advances in science and technology.
    • Interdisciplinary academic excellence that will help them drive future advances in science and technology.
    • Understanding of current problems and complexities in their field of interest through required senior level specialty courses and interdisciplinary study.

While students in the Applied Physics B.S. Program earn a wide range of skills and knowledge through the program, we specifically aim for our students to meet the following learning outcomes:

    • An understanding of the various fields and specializations encompassed by the field of physics.
    • An ability to conduct and participate in research relevant to the student's area of program specialization.
    • An ability to successfully apply professional communication, organization and time management skills.
    • An ability to problem-solve both as an individual and as part of a team.
    • An ability to identify and utilize evidence-based resources and information.
    • An ability to think critically and creatively about modern issues in the STEM field.
    • An ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of the following subject areas: physics, mathematics, and chemistry.
    • Recognition and understanding of best practices relevant to the student's area of program specialization.
    • An understanding of professional ethics.
    • An ability to connect textbook and classroom content to the real-world application.
