    About

    Classical archaeology explores the ancient Mediterranean region with a focus on ancient Greek and Roman culture. Prehistoric and early-historic archaeology focuses on the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age up until the cultural development of Europe in the first millennium A.D. Christian archaeology addresses archaeological relics from late antiquity and the early Byzantine Age. Egyptology focuses on all areas of late Egyptian high culture, including language and script as well as religion and culture. As their minor, students select one of the above-mentioned archaeological specializations. In addition to academic training, this program strongly emphasizes practical experience. The archaeology department has two museums: The Academic Art Museum (Akademisches Kunstmuseum) and the Egyptian Museum (Ägyptisches Museum) This subject must be combined with a second subject. Possible lines of work: Academia (research management, teaching/research at universities, research institutes, etc.), offices for the preservation of historical monuments, exhibitions/museums (curator, guide, logistics), insurance (e.g. providing expert opinion), tourism (cultural tour guide, cultural tourism program development), cultural field (event organization/management, cultural institutions, etc.), journalism (editing/proofreading at news agencies, publishers, radio, television, etc.), public relations (e.g. in museums, cultural associations, companies) Job options strongly depend on a graduates chosen major.
