About

The degree in Architectural Engineering is part of a four-year ABET-accredited program that includes a capstone design project in the fourth year. Building upon WPI's expertise in mathematics and basic science, the program delivers a broad foundation in engineering sciences related to the build environment. Then, utilizing WPI's unique strengths in project-based education, humanities, and social sciences, you'll be prepared with the knowledge and skills necessary to become responsible leaders within the field of sustainable building design.

As you work to earn a degree in Architectural Engineering at WPI, you'll focus on developing technical skills in four core areas: structural systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and construction/construction management. In addition to general courses for architectural engineering, you may focus your design proficiency in either the structural or mechanical area with electives like Design of Steel Structures, Pre-stressed Concrete Design, and Building Energy Simulation. We also offer the unique opportunity to earn your BS in Architectural Engineering and an MS in Fire Protection Engineering in just five years. As an architectural engineering undergrad at WPI, project-based learning will be the cornerstone of your academic growth. English Program Requirements

International applicants must submit proof of English language proficiency through one of the following exams:

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Recommended score of 90 with no sub-score below 20
IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Recommended score of 7.0 with no band below 6.5
Duolingo English Test Recommended score of 115
PTE (Pearson’s Test of English): Recommended score of 61

WPI Undergraduate Admissions will also consider Initialview or Vericant interviews if submitted. These interviews are optional and serve as a supplement to one of the exams mentioned above, but alone they do not satisfy our English proficiency requirement.

Step #1: Submit Application

First year candidates: Complete your application through the Common Application. Make sure you share who you are and what makes you a fit for WPI, and check over your answers. We encourage you to review our college application timeline checklist to put your best foot forward!

Transfer candidates: Complete the WPI Transfer Application. Make sure to also review important entrance and application requirements. Additional helpful information can also be found by reviewing frequently asked questions.

No matter which type of student you are, be sure to use an email address that you check frequently when filling out your application. Keep in mind that many high schools block external emails, so we recommend using your personal email address if you have one. This email will be the main method of contact that WPI uses to reach you throughout the application process.

Step #2: Request Required Materials

Request your required high school transcripts and letters of recommendation while completing your Common Application. WPI is a test-blind institution, meaning SAT and ACT scores are not part of the WPI application. We do require:

Official transcripts sent from high school
- Transfer applicants must also submit college/university transcripts
School counselor letter of recommendation
Teacher letter of recommendation
Early Decision applicants are required to submit the Early Decision Agreement
