    About

This hands-on course ensures you gain relevant academic knowledge and practical skills from the outset using our high-quality, current technology and on-site laboratories.

At Northumbria you will experience first hand knowledge of the built environment and the wider environmental context. The programme will focus on all the appropriate elements for the initial stages of developing you as a Northumbria Graduate and ultimately as an undergraduate degree student. The learning outcomes for the Built Environment programme and the modules have been mapped against the professional development requirements and the competencies required by this industry.

Northumbria foundation year students have a mature, intellectual curiosity through an examination and understanding of professional practice, current theories, policy and real-life practice. As a result, you will be able to develop and apply your academic knowledge and experience of research skills to your chosen degree programme.

You will be taught by a diverse group of built environment related professionals. Their background, knowledge and experience in both practice and academia, and the emphasis and support of a research rich learning environment, will allow you to develop a research rich, practice based experience and encourage you to carry on your studies in an undergraduate programme.

There is a set of modules to follow if you want to go onto further study in Built Environment.

    How to Apply

Bookings for September 2022 are now open.

Visit the Student Portal to start your booking and select your bedroom. We guarantee accommodation to all students, including those joining Northumbria University on a Foundation programme.

You can book accommodation in five easy steps:

    1. Confirm Northumbria University as your Firm/First choice University.

If you are applying via UCAS, please log into UCAS Track and accept your course offer as Firm. Please note this might take up-to 48h to be updated on the University system.

If you are a direct entry applicant, please visit the Applicant Portal to review and accept your course offer. To learn more about the process and the required steps, you can visit the After You Apply page.

    2. Visit the Student Portal and log in to the Accommodation section where you can start your booking.

Wait up-to 48 hours for your course acceptance to be recorded and using your applicant portal login details (you will have received this via email when you applied) select the Accommodation section to start your application.

Top Tip: Make sure you register with your personal email address and not one associated to a school/college. School/College email addresses are often closed after you leave and can delay the process.

    3. Select your bedroom

Select the exact bedroom you want to live in based on real-time availability by using our self-selection system. Browse through the available options and see the exact location of your bedroom. You can also see some general details about your flatmates, such age, country of origin, course and level of study.

Did you know? If you are a postgraduate student, the booking system will automatically show you available flats with other postgraduate students or students who might be in their final year.

    4. Complete your contract

Once you are happy with your room selection, you are required to sign a tenancy agreement to accept and confirm your accommodation booking. This is completed online and you receive a confirmation email with all relevant documents.

Top Tip: Make sure you read your contract carefully as it is a legally binding contract. If you don’t understand anything, get in touch, we will be happy to run through it with you.

    5. Pay your advance rent payment

The final step of your booking is making an advance rent payment of £250. Once the payment has been made, the room is secured for you. This payment is part of your total accommodation cost and is used towards your final rent payment.

Once you've completed the process above, the room is secured for you. You will also get access to our dedicated Facebook groups to help you connect with flatmates before you arrive.
