The programme has been designed to provide a rich and diverse experience with strong emphasis on professional development and the creation of a strong portfolio. The interaction of technical theoretical and creative aspects of photography is central in the delivery of the HND programme, with the focus of keeping up to date with the rapidly evolving photography industry. This course will offer students a place to develop and find direction for their work, through in-depth and hands-on exploration of current techniques and trends in photographic practice. The learning takes place in our studio, in the darkroom, as well as online, and is further enriched by gallery visits. Students benefit from a variety of teaching styles by inspirational lecturers that have professional experience as photography practitioners. This is a programme for those who wish to develop a range of skills valued by employers, in order to enter the photographic profession. During the course you will build on your knowledge by studying six units. The broad variety of units will provide an abundance of opportunities to discover the area of photography you are particularly passionate about. You will explore practical aspects of photography and will acquire extensive skills in studio lighting, industry based digital postproduction, analogue photography and black and white darkroom printing, which will enable you to produce impactful photographic images. The theoretical units will provide a historical and cultural framework that will inform your understanding of photography in a wider context. The practical units will be delivered in Chelsea Centre, while part of the theoretical units, as well as tutorials, will be delivered online using Microsoft Teams. Teaching takes place in small groups through lectures, practical workshops and regular 1-1 tutorials.
