    About

Overview Art Education at Radford University proudly host regional art education programs/seminars for local residents, teachers and students. Collaboration between the Radford University visual arts faculty and the pre-professional candidate aids in their artistic and art historical growth. Furthermore, our collaboration with regional arts specialists (e.g., Montgomery County Public Schools, Pulaski County Schools, etc.) offers our candidates unique and diverse experiences with a range of professionals and students at a variety of grade levels.Learning outcomesAll visual art education candidates are members of our National Art Education Association student chapter. Through this affiliation, our candidates are exposed to current field research as well as reviewing regional and state mandated curriculum and assessments.Visual art education candidates are required to take pre-professional courses in elementary and secondary methods before the classroom observations begin. Candidates are placed in various schools in the Montgomery County or Pulaski County system and are encouraged to take part in all in-service opportunities and local arts organization programs provided to their cooperating art educator. Each intern works with the classroom practitioner and maintains observation journals that are reviewed and discussed as part of the intern experience. Furthermore, interns are encouraged to share their expertise in studio media, methods, and techniques with the cooperating teacher and to explore available technology, and other resources for their particular grade-level assignments thus to further prepare for their student teaching experience.
