Art history offers compelling ways to analyze and interpret our cultural environments, to think critically and perceptively about our shared humanity and diversity, and to develop observational skills that promote meaningful acts of seeingâ€ over simply looking.â€ Most art history courses emphasize the study of works of art in relation to historical, political, social, aesthetic, and environmental contexts to train students how to research, reflect, and express ideas effectively. Innovative approaches link the study of the history of art to other fields of inquiry in the liberal arts and sciences to engage students through global experiences, interdisciplinary practices, career-oriented internships, and new technologies. Art history is a uniquely creative field for students who are discovery oriented with wide ranging interests. What does art history offer? Art history as a program of study combines a broad education with a vast array of transferrable skills. Employers rate highly many of the core skills students learn from the study of art history including creative expression, attention to detail, flexible thinking, problem solving, openness to new ideas, cultural awareness, and human relations. These skills are further honed through engagement with local art-related activities, options for internships at the Frist Museum of Art in Nashville, semester-away opportunities through the Belmont USA program, as well as global experiences available in a rotating schedule of Maymester and summer courses with travel to Japan, the United Kingdom, Greece, Germany and other destinations. What happens after graduating? The minor is Art History is designed to complement major studies in the arts, humanities, social sciences and sciences. Survey courses provide students with a broad introduction to historical and contemporary art and architecture to enhance skills in visual analysis and interpretation and develop an appreciation of the value and diversity of cultural heritage. Special Topics Seminar courses in art history relate visual images to inquires about society, gender, economics, religion, politics, philosophy, psychology, and culture. Visual art and architecture defines human history and communicates the essential truths of every culture and society. This minor provides students an opportunity to explore focused topics in Art History by means of the two standard survey courses, four seminars in specialized topics such as Greek and Roman art. How to Apply

To be considered for admission to the M.S. with a major in Audio Engineering program, the applicant must: - Complete the online application including an essay describing your background, related interests, and desired outcomes for participation in the program. - Submit your application and pay the non-refundable graduate application fee. - Have official transcripts submitted for all prior college-level coursework and degrees earned. - Secure two recommendations from individuals who are qualified to evaluate your potential for successful masters-level graduate work. - Submit a curriculum vitae and/or professional resume. - Complete an interview with the program director/admission committee.
