    Art History

    About

This two-year program offers opportunities to work closely with faculty in Art History and other disciplines. Students study the theory and the methodology of art historical research and writing, explore a broad range of specialized fields, and conduct independent research. There are multiple opportunities for language training, advanced research, and for collaboration with campus museums and galleries. Graduates go on to teach, work in the art world, or pursue further graduate study.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

UC Davis offers admission to applicants who have the highest potential for graduate study and who, with the benefit of graduate education, are most likely to contribute substantially to their academic or professional fields through teaching, research or professional practice. UC Davis views as a high priority the enrollment of graduate students from different backgrounds and demographic groups.

    1. A minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) from the institution where you have earned or will earn your bachelor's degree.
    2. By the time they enroll, successful applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent that is comparable to a degree from the University of California both in distribution of academic subject matter and in scholarship achievement. Regional accreditation for U.S. institutions and authorization by a national higher education authority for international institutions (at the time the degree was earned) are used as the eligibility standard.
    3. Application fee ($120 for domestic applicants, $140 for international applicants, or possible fee waiver for participants in approved Graduate Preparatory Programs)

    English Program Requirements

A strong understanding of the English language is important to your success at UC Davis. If you have been studying in the United States for fewer than three (3) years and your native language and school language of instruction prior to your study in the United States was not English, you must demonstrate English proficiency. Meeting this requirement through the AP exam, IB exams or transferable college courses also satisfy the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR).
