Overview Key FeaturesThe Art Studio degree program from Jackson State University is also attractive to those students who are scholars of the arts, and who have interests that include art history and criticism. Study in this area begins with a thorough art and design foundation that includes 2-D, 3-D and color design classes and four semesters of drawing. Students also take four semesters of art history, and an introductory class for each concentration area plus photography.Advanced students are required to select an area of concentration. Current choices are Painting, Ceramics, Printmaking, and Sculpture. At least four semesters of applied coursework in the area of concentration is required, and a selection of capstone classes including the Senior Exhibition complete the program.Painting is taught within the broader cultural, historical, and contemporary context in which art is made and experienced. Ceramic students discover the broad scope of form in space. They explore a variety of means through which ideas and inspiration are conceptualized.Printmaking fosters individual artistic growth through exploration. We teach and demonstrate a respect for craftsmanship, and encourage each student to transcend his or her medium. Printmaking exposes students to a concentrated fine art program designed to provide the foundation for later independent exploration and artistic development.Sculpture prepares students to think independently and critically, to gain a command of the technical processes inherent to sculpture as a means of realizing your ideas and to develop a true understanding of sculptural issues. Contemporary trends and evaluations of artistic development are woven into class projects.Artists who graduate from this program of study are able to create in many forms and media, and are especially adept at the creative process within their chosen concentration. They are well grounded in history and theory, and have had many experiences carefully selected to enable them to practice art professionally. I want to find another Bachelor Course
