    About

    Who is the course for?

    This Masters course is for anyone interested in studying at postgraduate level to enhance health, wellbeing, education/training and performance in the arts, such as artists, performers, creatives and practitioners in dance, drama, music and/or performing arts.

    It is designed for graduates who have completed a degree in a related field and wish to develop their career prospects; or graduates who have completed a degree in a different discipline but now wish to pursue a career related to arts, health and performance. It is also designed for those who already work in a related role and who wish to enhance their effectiveness and confidence in the workplace or to develop their career prospects.

    What will I study?

    To gain the MA award you will study:

    • Creativity, Culture, and Community (20 credits)
    • Performance, Health and Wellbeing (20 credits)
    • Collaborative Practice (40 credits)
    • Performance Science (20 credits)
    • Professional Development (20 credits)
    • Final Project (60 credits)

    Please note that the list of optional modules and their availability may be subject to change. We continually review and where appropriate, revise the range of modules on offer to reflect changes in the subject and ensure the best student experience. Modules will vary when studied in combination with another subject.

    Induction

    Before starting the course you'll be invited to attend an induction session which will give you details about academic, research and writing skills needed to study at postgraduate level. The induction will include such elements as library skills, IT applications, relevant software skills, research skills and writing at Master’s level. It is also an opportunity to meet with other students on the course.

    Special features

    We have a number of performance spaces such as studio theatre, dance studio/studio lab, a concert hall and a sports centre and gym.

    The Master in Arts, Health and Performance offers a stimulating programme with a unique blend of academic study and practice. We know that lives are busy, so we designed the course to be taught through a combination of intensive in person sessions, online interactive and self-directed teaching, as well as group and individual tutorials. Our programme will equip you with highly employable skills and advanced knowledge base to critically understand and navigate related fields both as an individual and in your professional role(s).

    Entry Requirements

    Bachelor degree For programmes requiring a 2:1: 
    A final grade of at least Very good/76% or a GPA of 3.0/4.0 For programmes requiring a 2:2: 
    A final grade of at least Very good/76% or a GPA of 3.0/4.0

    English Program Requirements

    All applicants for undergraduate programmes will need a minimum English level of IELTS or equivalent 6.0 overall, with no less than 6.0 in writing and no less than 5.5 in all other bands. Some programmes require 6.5/7.0 – please contact the International Office if you are unsure of your course requirement.

    For postgraduate entry all applicants will need a minimum of IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in writing and no less than 5.5 in all other bands or equivalent. Some courses have a higher requirement – please contact the International Office if you are unsure of your course requirement.

    For International Foundation entry all applicants will need a minimum of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent, with no less than 5.0 in writing and no less than 4.0 in all other bands.

    If you have taken an IGCSE exam in English and have a Grade C, this will also usually be acceptable for most undergraduate courses.

    We are also able to consider some non-UK English qualifications for entry. The International Admissions Team will advise if they are able to accept your English language qualification once you have applied.

    Career

    Graduates of this course will be able to pursue careers in a variety of arts roles, including in strategic development, project management in related fields, managerial positions in participatory arts and health/arts and education/arts and performance and in for profit or non-profit organisations. Graduates would have knowledge and understanding to enhance health, wellbeing and longevity in performance that would be an asset to arts companies and performers. Students who are already in the workplace will benefit from using their new-found qualification and confidence to progress their careers with their current employer, or to use it to secure promotions or new employment elsewhere. They can also use the qualification as a way to improve what they are undertaking within their current role. Students completing this MA could also go on to a PhD in Performing Arts or Music and could undertake a teaching qualification (PGCE or Schools Direct) to take their practice into a school, FE or HE setting.

    Taught Master's degrees

    *If you are interested in MA Social Work, MSc Nursing (Adult or Mental Health) or Physician Associate Studies you need to apply via UCAS.

    Applying as an international student
