    About

    Wayne State Bachelor of Arts in Astronomy provides students with foundational knowledge in astronomy, including contemporary developments in studies of dark matter, dark energy, stellar and galactic astronomy, black holes and neutron stars and searches for exoplanets. Students graduating with a B.A. in astronomy will have strong scientific preparation for entry-level jobs or advanced degree programs in a broad spectrum of disciplines including business, education, law and social and physical sciences. 

    Students interested in graduate studies in astronomy or astrophysics may prepare, under the B.A. in Astronomy, by taking chemistry and physics electives or under the B.S. in Physics with a minor in astronomy. 

    In short, you will have all the traditional options of liberal arts majors with the added advantage of a unique science background.

    Entry Requirements

    Each applicant is evaluated as an individual. Your admission to WSU is based on a review of many factors, which may include:

    • High school or secondary school academic performance

    • Submit an SAT/ACT score, or submit test-optional documents (two letters of recommendation, two essays, and an activities list).

    • Rigor of high school curriculum

    • Meeting Wayne State's English proficiency requirements

    • Any other supporting documentation requested

    • Submit all application documents by December 1 to be considered for merit-based scholarships. 

    Additional requirements

    • English translations of documents must bear the seal/stamp of the issuing institution.

    • Your statement of financial support cannot be older than six months.

    • Bank supporting documentation must show the dollar amount equivalent to the financial requirements (pdf) for undergraduate international students.

    • English proficiency tests cannot be more than two years old.

    • Checks drawn on foreign banks should carry the notation "Payable in U.S. funds, plus service charges."

    How to Apply

    You should apply as an international student if you are not a permanent resident or citizen of the United States. You should also apply under this status if you have graduated from a secondary institution and completed pre-university educational curricula in your own country.

    • International students can apply for 2023 using the undergraduate admission application.
    • If you are a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, or if you are a U.S. Citizen living in Canada, apply for 2023 using the undergraduate admissions application.
