    Bachelor of Biomedicine (Honours)

    About

The Bachelor of Biomedicine (Honours) is a one-year full time course that allows you to build on your knowledge and accomplishments obtained in the Bachelor of Biomedicine or Bachelor of Biomedical Science.

Progress your studies in biochemistry or microbiology and enhance your employability skills and take your first step towards a career in research, academia and beyond.

By completing an Honours year, you'll be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge in the field of biomedical science.

You'll conduct your own research project under the supervision and mentorship of La Trobe's expert staff, plus you'll gain exposure to cutting-edge biotechnology techniques through lectures and workshops conducted by La Trobe's leading researchers and in-field scientists.

To complement your research, you'll extend your essential scientific communication and presentation skills through seminars, projects and oral examinations.

Gain the advanced skills you'll need to successfully design and implement scientific investigations, analyse and interpret data and communicate scientific findings to a variety of audiences. You'll graduate prepared to enter the job market or pursue postgraduate studies.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 8 - Bachelor Degree Honours.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

To qualify for admission to the Honours program students must first complete all requirements of the Bachelor degree, obtain a minimum average of 60 per cent across all of their third-year subjects and obtain at least 70 per cent in subjects germane to their Honours discipline to the value of 60 credit points (biochemistry, physiology and anatomy, microbiology, genetics). Meeting this requirement, however, does not guarantee a place in the Honours year as resources may limit the total number of places available, and students are expected to find a supervisor prior to enrolment.

Note: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

    Honours in your major

You may be eligible to complete Honours in a major completed as part of your undergraduate degree. Your eligibility is subject to the availability and agreement of a suitable supervisor for the major and you meeting the entry requirements specific to that major. For more information, please see the University Handbook.
