    About

    The Bachelor of Economics will provide you with a sound understanding of today’s complex economic environment and the skills to design economic systems that promote welfare, fairness and sustainability. You’ll learn about how modern economies operate, trade and grow; the role of prices and markets in allocating scarce resources; and the sorts of policy interventions that can be introduced when economic outcomes are less than optimal.

    The multidisciplinary Bachelor of Business Analytics – developed and refined in consultation with industry so content is always current and relevant – equips you with the knowledge and skills to help businesses better understand their consumers, innovate, reduce their risk and maximise opportunities.

    You may still qualify for admission under our International Academic Entry Program (IAEP), which considers your overall performance and your results in specific subjects relevant to your selected studies.

    English language requirements

    All Macquarie University applicants are required to provide evidence of English language proficiency. The standard of English required for entry is based on the IELTS Academic test. Other accepted evidence of English proficiency, including minimum scores on other English tests and qualifications, can be checked using the conversion tool.

    What if I don't meet the requirements?

    If you don’t meet the English requirements for your course, you may be issued an offer of study that includes an English preparation program at the Macquarie University English Language Centre (ELC). If you receive a packaged offer, you can apply for a single student visa covering both your English preparation program and your course.

    The length of your English program will depend on your current English level and the minimum English requirements for your course. Our admissions team will be able to recommend the number of weeks required when you submit your application.

    We accept the IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT (internet-based), Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, Cambridge English Qualifications (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency), and the Occupational English Test (OET).

    Assumed knowledge

    HSC Mathematics Advanced or equivalent. If you don't have the assumed knowledge you're advised to include a mathematics or quantitative methods elective unit in your first year of study.

    HSC Mathematics Extension 1 or equivalent.

    Bachelor of Economics

    Assumed knowledge

    HSC Mathematics Advanced or equivalent. If you do not have the assumed knowledge, we highly recommend enrolling in a quantitative methods elective unit, such as ECON1031, during your first year of study.
