    Overview

    The Business (Honours) degree is designed for high achieving individuals with the potential to undertake independent research.

    An honours degree provides a distinctive competitive advantage in the international job market and offers a pathway for further research and learning into master and PhD degrees.

    The knowledge and skills you will acquire throughout this degree and how they can be applied in your career are described in the learning outcomes.

    Electives and course plan

    The degree is structured in two parts: coursework and thesis.

    The four compulsory courses provide the fundamentals skills for completing a high-quality thesis. You will learn contemporary research techniques relevant to business settings and develop capacity to conceptualise, research and contribute.

    For the Honours thesis component you will address a significant issue or problem in business and will be required to demonstrate your ability to synthesise current knowledge in your chosen topic, design and execute a research study, and generate knowledge and practice outcomes under the guidance of an experienced academic.

    Supervision

    RMIT has more than 530 research supervisors listed, all with unique interests and areas of specialisation.

    Research thesis topics are available in the following areas; you can also choose your own topic provided supervision is available:

    • accounting and corporate governance
    • information management and knowledge transfer
    • information systems
    • management and entrepreneurship
    • marketing
    • mobile health (mHealth) - technology/IT perspective
    • social media (Web 2.0) technologies and cloud computing
    • systems modelling, services science, resources and logistics

    The scholars associated with this degree are world-class academics who are highly enthusiastic about business research and will strive to help you develop your talents, skills, and abilities. Supervisors will be chosen based on your thesis topic.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    You must have successfully completed an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification) in a business discipline that includes a major in economics and finance, entrepreneurship, management, human resource management, international business, marketing, accounting, information systems or logistics from a recognised tertiary institution with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (out of 4.0).

    Prerequisites

    There are no prerequisite subjects required for entry into this qualification.

    Selection tasks

    Statement: You must include with your application a statement (maximum 500 words) outlining a potential title for your thesis, a clear description of your proposed research topic, and a concise explanation of why the topic is of current interest to your chosen business discipline. To prepare your proposal, please refer to the Guide to submitting a research topic proposal for Business (Honours) applicants.

    Graduates from the Honours degree will have demonstrated outstanding ability and superior analytical and empirical skills.

    You will be prepared to enter a career that requires a skilled analytical practitioner to conduct effective research in a business or industry setting, or continue to masters or PhD level research.
