    This course is designed for those aiming to bring legal expertise to leadership positions in the media sector, encompassing film, TV, music, and online content. Its distinctiveness lies in the blend of strategic management and comprehensive legal education tailored to media professionals. This course meets the academic requirements for admission to practise as a lawyer in NSW.

    You will acquire skills in strategic planning, business development, and promotion, alongside a robust legal foundation relevant to media enterprises. The course offers the flexibility to specialise in areas like media law or emerging legal technologies, enhancing your professional versatility.

    Teaching methods are dynamic, combining interactive classes, workshops, and internships to cultivate professional skills and knowledge. Upon completion, you will be equipped for roles such as business development manager, policy advisor or media industry lawyer.

    In this course students develop the necessary management skills to lead contemporary media businesses that can range from film and TV production to music or games companies to advertising agencies. Students learn about strategic planning, business development and promotion for creative industries; they also explore in-depth the legal theory and practice that meets the academic requirements for admission to practise law in NSW.

    Using their elective choices, students can build specialist expertise in areas such as media, entertainment and contract law. They can also choose to study the Legal Futures and Technology major as a way of gaining first-hand experience of the technologies shaping the future of legal work.

In both instances, you’ll work on a real-world challenge presented by an industry partner organisation – partners who often create career pathways for our graduates. * Excludes students concurrently enrolled in the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation.

    Admission requirements

    Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.

    The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

    International students

    Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
