    About

    The Bachelor of Criminology and Bachelor of Cybersecurity program equips students to tackle the evolving nature of crime, disorder and threats to public safety & security in the 21st century, particularly as it becomes more digital and transnational. It is ideal for those beginning their careers or seeking to enhance their skills to meet industry demands. The curriculum combines theory and practice through core subjects and curated specialisations reflecting an applied and translational approach to criminology whilst bridging the cybersecurity skills gap. The program develops develop robust cybersecurity skills, preparing students to address critical contemporary threats. Through the program a focus on data protection, cybercrime investigation, and crafting security solutions is provided, while considering ethical and legal aspects of risk management. Such an approach is crucial in light of the increasingly digital and transnational dimensions of crime, disorder and threats to public safety & security.

    The program emphasizes applied learning from the real world. Students engage with industry-standard datasets, tools, problems, and cases ensuring they are work-ready. The course is campus based, but adopts a blended-learning approach to study, with asynchronous self-paced learning, synchronous online activities, collaborative learning, on-campus activities, and industry engagement through site visits and guest speakers.

    Designed to meet current demands for graduate employment, this course balances theoretical insights with practical skills, relevant to crime prevention, detection, and understanding the multifaceted impacts of crime and cybersecurity.     The course combines studies in focussed areas with practical social science knowledge and skills needed for professions focused on crime prevention, detection, enforcement or the broader social implications and challenges of crime and cybersecurity and its digital, physical and social impact.

    At UTS, having access to specialised cybersecurity labs with state-of-the-art tools, places students at the cutting edge of criminology and cybersecurity research, policy and practice. This UTS program is a certified undergraduate course by the ASC and provides a unique experience for future employment for graduates.

    Admission requirements

    Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.

    The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

    International students

    Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
