    Degree Overview
    >MH304 Bachelor of Electronic Engineering is accredited by Engineers Ireland and is recognised internationally. The five year Master of Engineering (MEng) in Electronic Engineering at Maynooth University is accredited by Engineers Ireland and meets the educational standard required to become a chartered engineer.
    >In MH304 Electronic Engineering, students take Engineering fundamentals, Mathematics modules and start their first Problem Based Learning Project in 1st year, with projects in all proceeding years of the degree.
    >In 4th year, students specialise in one of the following three options:
    -Electronic Engineering with Computers (COE)
    -Electronic Engineering (EEG)
    -Electronic Engineering with Communications (COM)
    >Students who achieve a 2.2 grade (50%) minimum in 3rd year may choose the MEng stream. These students have the option in 4th year to complete one of the following: 6 month industry work experience / Erasmus or Research Internship or Project (subject to availability).
    >Electronic Engineering at Maynooth University has developed world-class expertise in the area of mobile communications, radio and wireless communications, biomedical engineering research, dynamics and control research, wave energy research, and robotics. Each of these areas is matched to rapidly growing industries and excellent job opportunities. By bringing this deep knowledge to all the undergraduate programmes, we provide our graduates with a world-class electronic engineering education but also a head start in these exciting and developing areas.

    W.A. Barrett Scholarship in Engineering: The W.A. Barrett Scholarship in Engineering at Maynooth University was established in 2023 through the generosity of Earthridge International and the Barrett family to commemorate the late William Anthony (Tony) Barrett. The scholarship provides €3,000 to eligible first year students taking a Level 8 course that is accredited by Engineers Ireland at Maynooth University. Two scholarships are available for MH304/MH306 Engineering students.

    Mature Applicants

    Mature applicants are assessed separately to school-leavers. Mature applicants are 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time/flexible degrees the mature age is 21.

    Mature applicants who have a disability

    Leaving Certificate Applicants

    Required to present 2H5 & 4O6/H7, Irish, English & a Science subject (i.e. Agricultural Science, Applied Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, Physics with Chemistry or Technology) & H4 Mathematics. MH304 Round 1 Points 2024: 355

    Applicants under 23 years of age must attain at least 350 points in their Leaving Certificate or equivalent plus basic entry requirements.

    HEAR and DARE

    DARE: The Disability Access Route to Education is a third level alternative admissions scheme for school-leavers whose disabilities have had a negative impact on their second level education.

    HEAR: The Higher Education Access Route is a third level admissions scheme for school leavers from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.

    English Program Requirements

    IELTS : 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each band  

    Duolingo English Test (DET) : The minimum requirement will be a DET score of 120 - with at least 110 in each individual subscore. 

    Pearson Test of English : 63 with no less than 59 for each item in the Communicative Skills section

    TOEFL internet-based test  : iBT: 90 with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in all other sections

    >MH304 Electronic Engineering graduates are highly sought-after in a wide range of ICT, engineering and non-engineering roles. Automotive, health, education, business and finance are all examples of activities now dependent on electronic engineering. Maynooth University engineering graduates are equipped to work in silicon chip manufacturing and design, communications companies and in the development of products closely combining hardware and software.
    >Beyond electronic engineering, MH304 graduates have the software skills to work in most software companies, and the problem solving and mathematical skills for many roles in the financial, consultancy and management sectors.
