    About

    To be awarded a Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) degree, one additional year of study is required following the successful completion of the Bachelor of Nursing.

    Graduates of Griffith University's Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) degree have a competitive edge as they are equipped with practical skills, experience and attributes that employers value, coupled with highly developed research capabilities.

    Offered by Griffith University's School of Nursing and Midwifery , our Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) will give you an opportunity to undertake advanced study and supervised research work.

    You'll complete coursework and a research preparation course in your first trimester and complete a dissertation in your second trimester.

    Coursework
    Through the 30-credit point coursework component of the Honours program, you'll gain an understanding of how to critically evaluate research. You'll also develop your knowledge of statistical analysis techniques as applied to scientific research and gain an awareness of how research proposals should be designed.

    Dissertation
    Through the 50-credit point dissertation component, you'll conduct research on a specific project and complete a seminar and dissertation describing the research in detail.

    You will be required to find a suitable supervisor for your research project prior to submitting your application for admission into the honours program. If you are unable to find a suitable supervisor, you

    Entry Requirements

    The University's Bachelor Honours Degree (AQF Level 8) Policy will apply.

    The criteria for admission to this Honours program are:

    • successful completion of a Bachelor of Nursing or an equivalent qualification and
    • a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0 over the second and third years of the Bachelor degree.

    The Program Director will take the following into consideration when assessing applications for admission:

    • the suitability of the proposed dissertation topic, the resources available to support the candidature and the availability of appropriate supervision and
    • the preparedness of the applicant to undertake the degree in terms of the elapsed time since the prospective candidate qualified for the award of a Bachelor degree and the academic preparation provided by the Bachelor degree for the candidate's proposed dissertation topic.

    English Program Requirements

    English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

    Note: We will only accept TOEFL results from one test sitting OR a maximum of two test sittings in a six month period only if the following criteria are met:

    • A minimum total score of 94 is achieved in each sitting and the applicant achieves a minimum score of 24 for listening, 24 for reading, 27 for writing and 23 for speaking across the two sittings and no score in any of the sections is below:
      • 20 for listening | 19 for reading | 24 for writing | 20 for speaking.

    English test results must be no more than two years old.

    The Direct Entry Program (DEP) pathway is not accepted for this program.

    Career

    As a graduate, you will be able to plan and conduct research in nursing and related health disciplines, and will be well-placed for positions in the private, not for profit, and public sectors.

    You may find opportunities in hospitals, in the community, and in urban and rural settings. Nursing graduates are employed in a range of occupations and industries. As well as hospitals, medical centres, community health clinics and aged care centres, you'll be prepared for work in schools, the travel industry, with drug and alcohol service providers, in sporting clubs or in research organisations.
