    About

    Podiatrists are health professionals who deal with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs. Your education and training will explore a variety of health sciences topics such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology and psychology, pediatrics, biomechanics, musculoskeletal conditions, diabetes, pharmacology and surgery. You will also develop podiatry-specific skills, enabling you to graduate work-ready.

    Practical learning experiences are integral to the course, and you will benefit from completing clinical placements at the newly established, purpose-built Allied Health Clinic at CQUniversity, as well as in a variety of external clinical settings, so you can put your learning into practice and gain real-life experience.

    Your Course

    The Bachelor of Podiatry Practice (Honours) (CB86) equips you with skills, knowledge and experience to assess, diagnose and treat disorders of the foot and lower limb of people of all ages. In this course, you will learn about human anatomy, physiology, pathology, wound care, podiatric therapeutics and conduct a research study.

    Accredited by the Australian and New Zealand Podiatry Accreditation Council, this course offers you industry-relevant skills and knowledge and incorporates extensive practical experience ensuring that you graduate work-ready.

    You will learn from experienced lecturers and podiatry practitioners who are focused on your career readiness and sharing their vast perspectives and practical learnings with you.

    Real-World Opportunities

    Throughout your studies, you will have the opportunity to complete at least 1000 hours of hands-on experience treating real patients in the CQUniversity Health Clinic in Rockhampton and at various off-campus clinical sites. You will conduct gait and movement analyses in our biomechanical laboratories, and you will also fabricate custom made foot orthotic devices in our fully equipped orthotic laboratories.

    You will begin your practical experience early in your course, allowing you to progressively gain experience and apply the discipline knowledge you gain throughout your studies.

    You will work with experienced practitioners to ensure your clinical management is based on sound clinical reasoning and is evidence-based. The course equips you with extensive theoretical knowledge and clinical experience that will provide you with the necessary advanced skills to commence professional practice as a podiatrist in a variety of clinical settings.

    English (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent

    English Language Proficiency Requirements

    If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or United States of America, you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University.

    Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion within the last 5 years of:

    • A secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12, or equivalent), or
    • Bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years fulltime with a minimum overall GPA of 4.0

    Completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, or United states of America, which will meet the English proficiency.

    If you do not satisfy any of the above, you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores:

    • An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 7.0 with a minimum 7.0 in each subset; or
    • An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components; or
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBt - 94 or better overall and no score less than 24 for listening and reading, 27 for writing, and 23 for speaking; or
    • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Requires an overall score of 65 with no sub-score less than 65.

    English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date and the date of commencement of study and must appear on a single result certificate.

    Podiatry students’ English language skills are directly aligned with the requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

    English Program Requirements

    If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.
