The degree programme has a strong focus on applied engineering with practical experience. Students are required to complete an eight-week internship before their studies in order to obtain practical experience in their chosen field. NOTE: Due to the corona virus, an internship (Vorpraktikum) is not required for admission to the winter semester 2021/2022. All students receive an in-depth, comprehensive education in all the important areas of modern chemistry. In addition to the basics of inorganic, organic, physical, and technical chemistry and analytical methods, students learn about biochemistry as well as polymer and plastics technology. After completing their basic studies in the first three semesters, students have the option of focusing their interests in environmental sciences, life sciences, or process engineering. Our modern, well-equipped labs play a major role in ensuring that students are later able to apply their knowledge to their chosen careers. Advanced students plan projects together, work towards a common goal, and then present the results in a written report as well as to the class. Students can complete their Bachelor's projects in industry or at the nearby JÃ¼lich Research Centre (http://www.fz-juelich.de) as well as in the university labs. Some students choose to continue in a Master's programme, such as our English-language "European Master of Science in Nuclear Applications," our German-language "Master of Science in Polymer Chemistry", or another Master's programme offered at our university or another institution. German entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or equivalent (http://anabin.kmk.org) Eight weeks of the required internship must be completed before enrolment. NOTE: Due to the corona virus, an internship (Vorpraktikum) is not required for admission to the winter semester 2021/2022. Many international students do not fulfil these requirements, but can qualify through the "Freshman Year" (http://www.fh-aachen.de/en/university/freshman/).
