    The scientific study of society and social relationships lies at the very heart of our humanity and how we co-exist with each other. It can be used to explore some of the world’s greatest challenges, to solve our biggest problems and to create a better future.

    Bond University’s Bachelor of Social Science is one of our most flexible study programs where you can design their individual combination of social science study streams, choosing from psychology, counselling interventions and criminology.

    You will nominate two key areas of study to form the foundation of your degree and further tailor it with nine electives chosen from subjects offered by any Faculty of the University.

    Choose subjects based on your personal interest or career ambitions. With opportunities available to work in health, government, the corporate sector, education, private practice, welfare, law, law enforcement and community settings, you can choose electives from the Faculty of Society and Design. Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, Bond Business School, and Bond Law.

    In Bond’s trademark small classes, you will benefit from the personal mentoring offered by your teachers – all of whom are leaders in their respective fields.

    Entry Requirements

    General Secondary Education Certificate 85%

    Grade average of final year results. Converted to a percentage scale where 50% = pass if otherwise reported.

    General Secondary Education Certificate (Successful Completion) and required SAT score 1020

    Overall test score. Where multiple test results have been presented, the overall test result providing the best rank will be used.

    English language proficiency requirements

    Bond's programs are taught and assessed in English, so depending on your educational background and citizenship, you may be required to provide evidence that your English language ability meets our requirements. This may include submitting results from an approved English Language Test taken in the past two years - you can see the required results for the most common approved tests below. There are other ways to demonstrate English language proficiency and gain entry into this program, including demonstrating prior study in English, or other qualifications. If your qualification does not meet the English language requirements then you will need to provide an English proficiency test for admission.

    Outcomes

    Criminologist

    Becoming a criminologist can offer a number of different career options. You may specialise in crime prevention, cybercrime, terrorism, juvenile justice, and law enforcement, or you may work in victim support services or offender rehabilitation and reintegration. Seek (2021) has projected a job growth of 12 per cent in the next 5 years.

    Correctional services

    Correctional officers enforce rules and regulations inside prisons, maintain the security of inmates, staff and facilities, and supervise daily activities. Correctional officers may specialise in offender diversion programs, prison industrial programs, dog squads and field supervision of offenders on worksites outside a prison setting. A projected job growth of 6.8 per cent is forecast over the next 5 years, with a typical salary of upwards of $80k according to Seek (2021).

    Probation/Parole officer

    Probation and parole officers seek to reduce the risk of reoffending They may work with people serving probation or parole out in the community, undertaking community service or in-home detention. According to Seek (2021), the projected job growth in the next 5 years is over 17 per cent, with an average salary of $85k to $110k.

    Counsellor

    By completing a major in Counselling Interventions and Psychology at Bond University, students can expand their career opportunities in this field. The number of people working as Counsellors grew very strongly over the last 5 years: from 19,200 in 2014 to 31,200 in 2019. The projected growth in Counselling jobs is expected to be 24.8% in 5 years.
