    About

    The Bachelor of Theatre at CQUniversity has a carefully designed and performance-integrated structure that will enrich your learning experience. Choose to major in Drama, Music Theatre or Technical Theatre to suit your area of interest and career goals.

    Within a creative and supportive environment of performance-based training, you will have the opportunity to work in a number of full-scale productions in technical and creative roles.

    On completion, you will be a highly skilled and motivated creative performer that is ready for the workplace.

    You will develop a wide range of skills, all of which will be contextualised by studies in theatre history and theory.

    During your education and training, you will develop advanced skills in problem-solving and creative, self-regulated and critical thinking, as well as enhance your singing and voice, acting, dance and movement skills. In addition, you will explore imagination and performance techniques and styles and cover production-related areas, such as lighting, sound and stage management.

    To gain entry to this course you will be required to audition.

    YOUR COURSE
    If you are passionate about performing on stage or would prefer to work behind the scenes, the Bachelor of Theatre offers a state-of-the-art, performance-integrated structure that will help you pursue your professional and personal interests.

    Core studies make up the first year, followed by the major of your choice in either drama, music theatre or technical theatre. The drama and music theatre majors offer intensive technical training in performing arts areas such as singing, dancing and acting. The technical theatre major allows you to explore the production process and develop skills in stagecraft, stage and production management, lighting, sound and technical direction.

    The course provides specialist training in your chosen major and you will develop technical, creative and performance skills that enhance your career opportunities. You will be involved in a world-class theatre course that will inspire your creativity and passion. You will open the door to a range of careers in the entertainment industry as an actor, musical theatre performer or as part of the theatre production team. The degree also provides excellent pathways for careers in education, creative industries and arts administration.

    Entry Requirements

    To be eligible for entry into this course, all applicants will be required to successfully complete an audition and interview.

    English Language Proficiency Requirements:

    If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or United States of America, you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University.

    Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion of:

    • A secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12 or equivalent), or
    • An Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) diploma level qualification, or
    • Bachelor level qualification study for a period of at lease 2 years full time with a minimum overall GPA 4.0

    Completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland or United States of America, which will meet the English proficiency. 

    If you do not satisfy any of the above, you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores:

    • An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 6.0 overall with a minimum 5.5 in each subset; or
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Requires 550 or better overall and minimum TWE score of 4.5 (Paper Based Test), or 75 or better overall and no score less than 17 (Internet Based Test); or 
    • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Requires an overall score of 54 with no sub-score less than 46; or
    • An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components.

    English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date and the date of commencement of study, and must appear on a single result certificate.

    Each student will be assessed individually. 

    English Program Requirements

    If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.
