The University of Mannheim has launched its new bachelors program in Current English Linguistics and Literary Studies (CELLS) in fall 2017. Students of the program learn about English language and literature, and study the cultures and societies of Great Britain and the USA.
By focusing on English and American Studies, students gain a particularly thorough insight into the subject and receive intensive language training. Almost all modules are taught in English.
Over the course of the program, you can specialize in either Literary Studies or Linguistics. Modules in Literary Studies give you the opportunity to learn about the basic principles and theories of scientific literary analysis, and focus on the literature of the late 20th century and the 21st century. Classes on Linguistics teach students about language acquisition and development, and multilingualism.
The module, Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives, enables you to attend courses offered by other schools which suit your subject focus. The module, Career Perspectives, outlines possible career options. It teaches you practical skills that take account of the increasing digitalization of the workplace, such as how to create a website or how to produce podcasts.
