    About

    Students of the Bachelor of Arts program in History study cultural systems and historical developments in society. The program focuses on the cultures and societies in Europe and the USA, and on economic, legal and social history. From ancient history to modern history – students gain an insight into all historical periods, but the focus of the program is placed on modern history.

    You can also choose a subject from the Humanities or Social Sciences, such as German Studies, Philosophy, or Political Science, to study as a minor. This gives you the chance to develop your own professional profile.

    • Depending on your nationality, some host institutions require other proofs of language proficiency, especially from non-EU citizens. You might need to submit a TOEFL or IELTS instead of a Language Certificate.

    Career

    The degree qualifies graduates for work in museums, archives, and scientific journalism. If you decide to get a masters degree in History, you can also pursue a career in academia.

    How to Apply

    Admission to the degree programs at the University of Mannheim is not selective within the meaning of a tradional numerus clausus (NC). Instead, we take the following criteria into account in our selection process:

    • the grade average achieved in your university entrance qualification,
    • the grades achieved in a subject relating to Social Sciences,
    • relevant work experience and extracurricular activities.

    German language proficiency
    If you are not a German citizen or do not have a German university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur or equivalent school leaving certificate), you must prove German language proficiency at C1 level.
