    About

Program Assistant 615.460.5889 Christian faith does not depend on ones ability to read Biblical Hebrew or Koine Greek. But much can be gleaned from the scriptures when read in the context of original languages. With verb tenses and specific articles that dont exist in modern English, as well as different grammatical rules, these ancient languages allow for a broad variety of expression and intricacy. Whether to prepare you for a career in academia or in church leadership, majoring in Biblical Languages at Belmont will provide a solid foundation to help enrich your understanding of the Old and New Testaments, their authors intentions and the context in which it was written. Moreover, studying Biblical Languages will challenge you to engage in biblical translations while elevating your study and understanding of the Bible. Belmont students, regardless of major, complete the universitys general education BELL Core—taking classes in humanities, social sciences, arts, quantitative reasoning and wellness that together provide a classic liberal arts education. All students in the College of Theology & Christian Ministry also take the same core classes in theology, church history, Christian ethics, spiritual formation and Christian life. Students pursuing a degree in Biblical Languages take two full years of both Biblical Hebrew and Koine Greek, with a focus on the vocabulary, grammar and syntax of selected biblical scriptures.
