    About

    If you’re interested in Biochemistry and Genetics, how they links to the study of diseases, the development of pharmaceutics and the complex relationship between these and our environment, but don’t have the required entry qualifications to join our BSc programme or are a mature student returning to education, our BSc with a Foundation Year is the right course for you. The foundation year of this four-year course will introduce you to the key concepts and knowledge you need to progress to the BSc in Biochemistry and Genetics. Following successful completion of the Foundation Year with at least a 60% overall average, students will progress onto Year 1 of the BSc. Our Biochemistry and Genetics degree will give you an in-depth understanding of the biochemical function of living organisms, from bacteria to plants, animals, and humans. You will develop excellent project management skills and learn how to design experiments and plan work programmes.

    Entry Requirements

    A-levels/Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales: CCD. Biology and Chemistry are essential, plus at least one other science

    IB: 24 to include Higher Level grades in Biology and Chemistry, plus at least one other science

    BTEC: DDM including Biology and Chemistry

    T Levels: We welcome applicants with T levels. Applicants will be assessed on a case by case basis.

    As well as one of the above qualification types all applicants are required:

    GCSE: English and Maths minimum Grade C Wales (England Pre-2017) or Grade 4 (England Post-2017)

    We accept Swansea University approved equivalent qualifications.

    For applicants whose first language is not English we require a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent) and no less than 5.5 in each component.

    English Program Requirements

    All students must demonstrate that they have achieved a certain level of English before starting their programme. You will need to provide a recognised English language test or qualification before you can be accepted to Swansea University

    Specific English requirements are listed on each course page under the 'entry requirements' section. Our English Language requirements are listed as IELTS scores but we accept the wide range of other English language tests shown below.

    Please note that some research scholarship, funded positions, may require a higher English Language test score than standard to be obtained prior to enrolment or held at the point of application.     If your English scores do not exactly meet our requirements, you could still be accepted if you successfully complete an English Language Pre-sessional Programme at Swansea’s English Language Training Services (ELTS) at the required level before starting your academic programme.
