    Biochemistry (Bachelor of Science)

    About

In Hannover, Biochemistry is offered as a stand-alone degree programme by Leibniz Universität Hannover in collaboration with Hannover Medical School (MHH) with the involvement of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover Foundation (TiHo). The programme focuses on biochemistry and molecular biology, which are founded on a broad basic knowledge of chemistry: general, analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, as well as mathematics, physics and biology are all compulsory subjects. Freely selectable periods of practical training, designed as courses, make up more than half of the programme. In a freely selectable area of optional courses, students gain advanced specialist knowledge (e.g. laboratory practicals), also in several areas of biomedical research. Students may also select modules outside the discipline. Orientation of the course content to the current state of science also enables graduates of the Bachelors degree programme to gain a professional qualification. It also provides them with the ideal requirements for pursuing a Masters degree programme, particularly in Biochemistry, Biomedicine or Life Science. The reference to professional practice is particularly reflected in areas where the implementation of theoretical concepts is broached in practical training.

Students of Biochemistry should have an enquiring mind and should enjoy experimenting; they should also not be frightened of handling chemicals, and should possess a certain degree of manual dexterity. It is also advantageous in this intense study programme for students to be willing to work independently, under pressure and in a team.
English language skills are required from the fifth semester at the latest. Optional and compulsory elective courses are offered in English.

    How to Apply

You can use our online application portal to enrol any time between 1 June and 30 September. To be able to do this, you will need a qualification for admission to higher education. At the end of the online application, you will automatically be forwarded to a cover letter (the so-called application for enrollment). Sign this application for enrollment (handwritten or digital) and put it together with the required documents into one PDF document, which you can then upload using the upload link provided. The required documents include your qualification for admission to higher education (e.g. Abitur) and any other supporting documents such as practical training certificates or evidence of language proficiency. We also need proof of your health insurance and evidence that you have paid the semester fee. At the end of the online application, all required documents are listed and must be uploaded as a scan of the original documents by September 30th, 11:59 p.m. Please do not forget to upload your photo for the LeibnizCard . You can find information on this in the application for enrollment at the end of the online application. In September, you will receive your enrolment documents, an invitation to the welcome event for new students and information about any preparatory courses that may be offered. Please note that some degree programmes offer preparatory courses well before term starts.
