    Overview It is suitable for those planning to go to graduate school as well as medical, dental, veterinary, and other professional schools.  It is also suitable at the bachelor’s level for jobs in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical field.  Note the requirement for six courses in Biochemistry at the University of California, San Diego, including two advanced electives. If you do not wish to take so much biochemistry, you should major in Chemistry and use electives to take the desired number of biochemistry courses.  Learning Objectives:Have firm foundations in the fundamentals and applications of current chemical theories for the physical world.Use molecular understanding in fields that are based upon chemistry: biology, environmental science, and engineering.Be skilled in problems solving, critical thinking, and analytical reasoning.Know the proper procedures and regulations for safe handling and use of chemicals and follow the proper procedures and regulations for safety when using chemicals.Design, carry out, record, and analyze the results of chemical experiments.
