    About

Integrate engineering principles with biological systems

Biological Engineering will prepare you to solve technological problems that involve human health, microorganisms, plants, and animals.

As a biological engineering graduate, you will apply your technical expertise to solve engineering problems by designing components, processes, and systems. Graduates will communicate and work effectively in teams as well as have adequate knowledge in inorganic/organic chemistry, biochemistry, biological/biomedical science, and environmental science. Graduates will be able to apply their educational skills in a broad context related to an ever-changing world.

Given the diversity of the biological engineering discipline, you will have opportunities to work with consulting and industrial firms in a variety of fields including bioprocessing, bioenergy, environmental, food production, agricultural, pharmaceutical, and biomedical. The diverse expertise makes biological engineers exceptionally valuable in today's challenging world.

    Entry Requirements

If you are a freshman or first-year student:

    • Undergraduate applicants who have no previous work at the post-secondary level must have at least a 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) from a secondary school. Students must also meet the criteria for admission to university-level study in their home country.

For admission into the College of Engineering, transfer students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.8. Other departments may have additional requirements. Students who have completed fewer than 14 transferable semester credits (post-secondary) must meet the freshman or first-year student requirements in addition to the transfer student requirements.
    • Please note: Students transferring to the University of Idaho from another U.S. college or university must notify their current international student advisor of their plans to transfer to the University of Idaho. Please refer to the SEVIS Transfer Process Form for more information about this topic.
