Biological Physics is a discipline that investigates the physical problems presented by biological systems, applying physics principles and techniques to gain new insights into the processes of life. This interdisciplinary major, administered by the Physics Department, is intended to prepare students to contribute to or pursue graduate study in areas of the life sciences and health professions that are increasingly technical, including cell biology, neuroscience, and medical research.

Entry Requirements
High School Performance
An applicant’s high school grade point average and class rank (if available) will be considered in the context of the rigor of their chosen curriculum and the Admission Committee will look for a minimum course distribution on a student’s transcript. If offered, the Admission Committee views strong performance in Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and College in High School courses favorably. Credit is typically awarded for AP scores of 4 or 5, IB (HL) exam scores of 5, and is considered for three or four credit college courses taken in high school.
Test Scores (optional)
Standardized test scores are only one factor in our admission process and serve to affirm a student’s academic potential in conjunction with their high school performance. Students who feel that their high school credentials are a more accurate representation of their ability to succeed in college are encouraged to apply under our Score-Optional policy, which places greater weight on the rest of their application materials. Our middle 50% range is typically 1060-1260 on the SAT Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing sections and an ACT composite score of 24-30.
English Program Requirements
Students who speak English as a second language (non-native speakers) are required to submit an official score report for the TOEFL or IELTS by the admission deadline. This includes non-native English speakers who study/live in the United States or attend English-medium schools. Please have the testing results sent directly from the testing company.
