Biology as subject in the Interdisciplinary Bachelors Degree Programme (Bachelor of Science)

    About

Courses in Biology are offered by three universities: Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH), the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover Foundation (TiHo) and Hannover Medical School (MHH). In the first part of the Interdisciplinary Bachelors Degree Programme in Biology, students focus mainly on general biology modules on cell and developmental biology, genetics and botany. These are followed by modules on issues relating to zoology, human biology, physiology and biochemistry. Elements of teacher professionalisation are taken in parallel from the second semester. Modules involving teaching methodology and specialist content are intertwined more closely. As part of the interdisciplinary bachelor's degree programme, students with a focus on teaching have to complete a non-school-based internship as well as a school internship, both lasting four weeks. The non-school-based internship helps students to get first work insights in the area of teaching, to check on their career aspiration. For students with an non-school-based focus, an eight-week non-school-based internship must be completed.
