About

A level biology is the study of life itself. The course explores the theories and principles involved in all living systems. Topics you will learn about include: lifestyle, transport, genes and health, development, plants and the environment, the natural environment and species survival, energy, exercise and co-ordination, as well as practical biology and research skills. The course will provide you with the chance to gain a solid understanding of the principles of genetics, molecules, taxonomy, natural selection, evolutionary theory, global warming, bacteria, viruses, and more.

You will build upon a lot of the knowledge and skills you gained during GCSE Biology as well as looking at:

DNA and RNA
Enzyme function
Organism classification
Reproductive strategies
Youâ€™ll also get the opportunity to design your own practical investigation around a topic you choose to really get stuck into the subject

Requirements

Entry Requirements

You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including maths and English. You will also need a grade 6 or above in either GCSE biology or combined sciences.
