Exploring the very mysteries of life is the essence of biology. It’s at the forefront of research into global issues such as disease, cloning, food and climate change. By studying everything from molecules to ecosystems, you’ll appreciate the challenges biological advances present to society.
You’ll gain an understanding of the scope of biological knowledge on our BSc (Hons) Biology degree that’s accredited by the Royal Society of Biology (pending reaccreditation). Our biology course covers a diverse range of topics in the study of living organisms. It includes extensive lab work, and fieldwork in a rich diversity of habitats. You’ll discover where your interests lie early on, and have opportunities to specialise.
On campus, you’ll study in outstanding teaching and research facilities. Our new Life Sciences building is home to world-class laboratories and specialist equipment, supporting your learning across cell and molecular biology, microbiology, genetics and more. You’ll have access to high-resolution microscopes, dedicated plant growth chambers and purpose-built facilities for exploring animal behaviour and physiology, equipping you with the tools to develop your skills in real scientific environments.
Fieldwork is a real highlight of the course. You’ll have the chance to take part in fully-funded international field trips, exploring diverse ecosystems in locations brimming with plant and animal life. Back on campus, you’ll be taught by passionate experts who bring their specialist knowledge to life in every session, giving you the confidence, skills and real-world insight to thrive in biological sciences.
You’ll also have opportunities to enhance your degree with experiences further afield. Take on a 12-month industrial placement to grow your professional skills. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, why not spend a semester, or even a full year, studying abroad in Europe, Asia or North America? Wherever your studies take you, we’ll help you make it count.
