    About

In the first year you'll build a strong scientific understanding of biochemistry, genetics, physiology and ecology, mastering new practical skills along the way with advanced lab work. From there you can choose from a wide range of modules for your second and final years, from infectious disease to neuroscience, reproductive biology or plant diversity. Mix and match to take a broad approach to your studies, or drill deep into the areas that interest you most.

If you're passionate about ecology, conservation or animal biology, you'll develop real-world skills with our field courses – studying large mammals in South Africa or ecological interactions in Croatia.

Choose this programme if you're looking for a flexible degree covering the whole of the biological sciences.

    Teaching and learning

We use a mixture of teaching styles - lectures, tutorials, classroom activities and laboratory work.

Outside of classes, you'll need to spend 20 to 25 hours per week preparing, writing up and reading.

    Assessment

Each module is assessed by written examinations and coursework (practical reports, field course reports, essays, problem sheets, online exercises and tests).

Final year students undertake a research or investigative project, assessed with a detailed written report.

    Resources and facilities

The School offers excellent on-campus resources to aid your studies, including:

    • newly refurbished lecture theatres
    • up-to-date IT facilitie

    How to Apply

Applications for our undergraduate programmes should be made online through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS)*.

You can choose up to five courses in your UCAS application. You can apply for more than one course offered by a university - just make a separate entry for each choice.

You can only choose four medicine and dentistry courses in your application but you can add a fifth choice as long as it is a different subject.

Our institution code is Q50. You'll need this as well as your UCAS course code, which you can find on your chosen course page from the course finder
