    Widen Your Career Path with a Foundation in Biology

    Investigate how organisms evolve and the ways in which living systems impact their environment.  In the Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences program at the University at Albany, you will combine the scientific rigor of biology with the breadth and scope of another field of interest.

    This program prepares you for jobs where scientific knowledge and practices are crucial. Fields include science-related businesses, such as pharmaceutical and biotech research firms; legal fields related to biotechnology, like regulation and patent law; and science journalism and writing.

    • Demonstrate an understanding of information flow, exchange, and storage as it influences the development of individuals, populations, and species. 
    • Demonstrate an understanding of structure and function at the level of the gene, genome, cell, tissue, organ, organ system and whole organism level.
    • Apply biological knowledge to societal issues.
    • Demonstrate scientific literacy in oral and written communication.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the methods, techniques, concepts, and vocabularies of the social sciences (requires psych or soc as part of the major).
    • Employ the scientific method through the design and implementation of experiments and the collection, analysis and interpretation of data.

    Entry Requirements

    All applicants must arrange for their official school and/or college transcripts to be sent to us.

    • First-year (freshmen) applicants: You must submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

    • Transfer applicants: You must submit official transcripts of all college and/or university work, even if you don't expect to receive transfer credit. If you've completed fewer than 24 transferable college credits, you'll also need to submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

    If you are admitted, you will also need to submit an official final transcript from your secondary school showing your date of graduation.

    Academic transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official, certified English translation.

    Transcript Evaluation 

    A transcript evaluation allows the review committee to correctly compare the quality of your school, coursework and grades with all other applicants. 

    Although not required, we accept SpanTran or WES evaluations sent from the organization directly to the University at Albany.

    Other evaluation services can only be used if they require official documents directly from the institution of higher education, not the student, to evaluate coursework. The organization must also be accredited by NACES.
