About

Overview Learning outcomesFaculty in the Biology department at University of Massachusetts Lowell are engaged in cutting-edge research, with special emphases in the areas of neuroscience, cancer biology, developmental cell biology, molecular evolution, invertebrate systematics, functional morphology, structural biology, environmental microbiology, virology, climate change biology, and biology education research. Much of this research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, NASA, and the Department of Defense, along with various foundations and companies. A core mission of the department is to integrate teaching, research, and community service, and to that end, we offer undergraduate and graduate students laboratory-based research opportunities, as well as industry cooperative experiences and service-learning courses. Students who choose the General Biology option are allowed to customize curriculum by selecting advance course electives that match their particular interests in career goals.
