    About

If the idea of creating a device that offers ergonomic and accurate hypodermic drug delivery or finding an effective way to collect more umbilical cord blood is exciting to you, a degree in biomedical engineering from WPI will provide you with the knowledge, support, and resources needed to explore these and other avenues in your future career. From your very first courses, you'll dive into research that interests you with the kind of hands-on work that combines different engineering principles with biology, medicine, and health. At WPI, you'll work alongside entrepreneurial faculty and peers who are excited to jump into concept-to-prototype ambitious research projects that will transform people's lives.
Biomedical engineers have to know about more than engineering, so in addition to biomedical engineering courses, your coursework will also span disciplines, giving you the chance to study subjects like chemistry, mathematics, and computational sciences. Using state-of-the-art instruments and technology in our labs, you'll work alongside faculty on complex, hands-on projects that explore engineering applications in medical science, making WPI one of the best biomedical engineering colleges offering a practical combination of knowledge and real-world experience. Here, you can tailor your studies to match your interests, so you can dig deep into the subjects you find most compelling and work on cutting-edge research that could change the world. With WPI's accelerated five-year program, you can finish a BS/MS program in a shorter time.
Project-based learning anchors the WPI education, and biomedical engineering majors jump right into complex and innovative research projects from the earliest introductory courses. Students say project work transforms the way they think, allowing them to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world problems. You may find yourself creating a low-cost phone-based malaria test or a device that offers reliable measurement to make animal ACL repair surgery consistent.

    How to Apply

    Step #1: Submit Application

First year candidates: Complete your application through the Common Application. Make sure you share who you are and what makes you a fit for WPI, and check over your answers. We encourage you to review our college application timeline checklist to put your best foot forward!

Transfer candidates: Complete the WPI Transfer Application. Make sure to also review important entrance and application requirements. Additional helpful information can also be found by reviewing frequently asked questions.

No matter which type of student you are, be sure to use an email address that you check frequently when filling out your application. Keep in mind that many high schools block external emails, so we recommend using your personal email address if you have one. This email will be the main method of contact that WPI uses to reach you throughout the application process.

    Step #2: Request Required Materials

Request your required high school transcripts and letters of recommendation while completing your Common Application. WPI is a test-blind institution, meaning SAT and ACT scores are not part of the WPI application. We do require:

    • Official transcripts sent from high school
      • Transfer applicants must also submit college/university transcripts
    • School counselor letter of recommendation
    • Teacher letter of recommendation
    • Early Decision applicants are required to submit the Early Decision Agreement

    Additional Requirements

Some types of applicants will have additional requirements. Please select an option below if you are a homeschool student, international student, or transfer student.

    Step #3: Review Application

Once you submit your application, watch your email for a receipt from WPI. Check your status online to confirm you are not missing any information needed to review your application.
