The Master's program is an intense two-year program developed for students interested in professional opportunities in either biomedical laboratories or medical education. The program also intends to bridge students who are interested in future doctoral or professional programs. Students select one of two available tracks of study: either the Research Track or the Education Track. The first year is focused on coursework and the second year emphasizes hands-on development in research or teaching. A written thesis is required for both tracks.
The Research Track offers specialization in either the Visual Sciences or Neuroscience. Students are provided the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art techniques related to preclinical and clinical research.
The Education Track provides the opportunity to learn and teach Gross Anatomy, Microanatomy (Histology), Embryology, and Neuroanatomy. Students will participate in both virtual microscopy and human cadaveric dissection, ultimately acquiring expertise and marketable skills in teaching related courses.
The Master's program is designed to be rigorous, with a comprehensive scholarly emphasis. After completion of the program, the overall experience, knowledge, and skills gained during the Master's program will allow students to apply their newly acquired abilities across a broad range of research and educational settings, as well as support those interested in continuing in a PhD program or health professional school. For those interested in continuing in an MD program, the MS program has a linkage agreement with WSU School of Medicine that guarantees a medical school interview for those that complete the program with high performance levels (MS linkage agreement information)

Linkage agreement
Wayne State University Master's Program in Anatomy and Cell Biology (ACB) is designed to provide rigorous graduate training for pre-professionals who wish to pursue careers that are related to health care and rooted in biomedical sciences. The interdisciplinary curriculum consists of scholarly coursework concentrated on the anatomy and cell biology of human systems and practical research or teaching experiences. The ACB Master's program requires both a written thesis and oral, public defense for successful completion. The program provides opportunities for students to gain experience, build skills, and strengthen their academic records which will inform their career decisions. Upon completion of their degree many students will teach, work as laboratory technicians, or continue their education in biomedical PhD programs. However, a cohort of students in the program seek admission to medical school. Therefore, a linkage agreement has been formed with Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSUSOM). Students that meet certain GPA, MCAT, professionalism, and course requirements after completing 20 credits of ACB didactic anatomy courses will be granted an interview. Contact the MS program director for additional details.
