    About

    Biomedical Science is at the forefront of pioneering advances in medicine. In our leading-edge biomedical laboratory facility set in the heart of our historic campus, youexplore this vibrant field, joining our Biosciences group ranked 1st nationally for student experience by the Guardian and The Times University League Tables 2022.

    Through a series of health laboratory challenges, yoube trained in the diagnosis, monitoring, treatment and prevention of disease. With a focus on practical exploration and assessment, these exercises will build your capability and confidence to undertake your own laboratory research.

    Youalso have the opportunity to develop your skills and employability through work-based modules, ranging from short internships to year-long placements.

    Youfinish the course well-prepared to graduate to a career in medical research and health services, or to progress to professional training in medicine, dentistry, nursing or teaching.

    Study style

    Your first year on the course will introduce the essentials of anatomy, physiology, cells, infection, immunity, biochemistry, microbiology and genetics. While developing a grounding in these key topics, yoube well supported in your transition to studying Biomedical Science at university and be given personal access to the Fundamentals of Biomedical Science book series.

    Yourotate through key themes in histopathology, cytopathology, haematology and virology in your second year, debating contemporary issues and gaining key skills in data analysis.

    By the third year youdevelop specialisms in biotechnology, neurobiology, pharmacology, toxicology, epidemiology and cancer medicine, choosing your own laboratory-based research area for your Dissertation project. Youaccomplish all this through our focus on practical learning, drawing on and developing a broad spectrum of skills to help you succeed in life beyond University.
