Course Overview

Scientific knowledge and discovery are at the heart of medical advances. The Biomedical Sciences programme is designed to expose students to advanced fields of research in one of five specialist tracks: Molecular Medicine; Neuroscience; Translational Oncology; Healthcare Infection; and Immunology.

Students are also exposed to original research that enhances their understanding of the molecular mechanisms of disease.

The course aims to provide the participants with an understanding of the basic biology and advanced molecular mechanisms of various disease states; knowledge of current treatment strategies for disease management and treatment; knowledge of core techniques used to answer research questions in biomedical sciences; practical laboratory skills, experience in troubleshooting, and expertise in selected methodologies to facilitate a research or research-related career.

Entry Requirements

Admission is restricted to undergraduate students in Year 3 (and occasionally Year 4) in Trinity's School of Medicine. At this point, students will have qualified for a B.A. which is normally awarded when the students are conferred with their final M.B. The intercalated Master's will also be conferred then.

The course is coordinated through the Department of Clinical Medicine, Trinity, St James's Hospital Dublin. All references provided must be from Trinity academics.

English Language Requirements

All applicants to Trinity are required to provide official evidence of proficiency in the English language. Applicants to this course are required to meet Band B (Standard Entry) English language requirements. English Program Requirements

Applicants for the Trinity International Foundation Programme require IELTS 5.0 overall, with 5.0 in Writing and no band below 4.5.

Applicants for all Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes must present one of the following English language qualifications.

In cases where the coefficient is less than 5, a minimum result of 14 will be required.
5	International Baccalaureate	English A1, A2 or B: 5 at Higher Level (4 at Standard Level if presenting IB through English)
6	US High School Curriculum	A grade C in English taken in final year
7	TOEFL	Paper based 570 (with a TWE score of 4.5) / Computer based 233 (with a score of 4.5 in essay) / Internet based 90 (with a written score of 21) PG: 88 internet-based, 570 paper-based, 230 computer-based
8	University of Cambridge	180+ on Cambridge English scale with no less than 175 in each skill and use of English i.e., Proficiency Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2), Advanced Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2) PG: Proficiency Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2) Advanced Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2)
