    About

Overview Some of the unique aspects of our department are:All students have independent research experiences working closely with faculty mentorsStudents travel to research conferences. Learning outcomesBiomolecular Sciences at Central Connecticut State University typically take 40-50 students a year to present their work.Students gain research experiences using a variety of traditional model systems: mouse, C. elegans, fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster), zebrafish, and tissue culture systems. We also offer experiences with novel and/or emerging model systems such as planaria and mussel (Geukensia demissa). We offer specialized facilities and equipment. These include: a cell culture facility, animal suites, histology facility, a microbiology lab (certified by the Connecticut State Department of Public Health), fluorescent microscopes, and Real-time PCR machine. These facilities complement our molecular biology laboratories equipped for studies of cell biology, developmental biology, genetics, genomics, microbiology, neurobiology, and physiology. We provide many outreach programs to local middle and high schools. These programs provide Central Biomolecular Sciences students the opportunity to volunteer time and apply what they have learned. Our students assist in teaching laboratories and mentor high school students. I want to find another Bachelor Course
Central Connecticut State University’s Biomolecular Sciences major focuses on molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, and physiology and integrates the theory and practice of molecular biological research. Student-centered research is a foundation of the program. A variety of modern research lab equipment enriches class instruction and supports independent student research.
