    Brewing and Beverage Technology

    About

    The Bachelor's program Brewing and Beverage Technology covers both scientific and engineering aspects of brewing beer and general beverage production. Further central contents are quality assurance, general operating technology and business administration in the beverage industry. Topics are e.g.:

    • Purchasing and assessment of raw materials
    • Organization and optimization of various production steps for the manufacture of beverages
    • Implementation of quality assurance systems
    • New construction or conversion of production plants and supply facilities
    • Control of analytical and sensory product properties
    • Development of new beverages

    The Bachelor's program Brewing and Beverage Technology deals with the engineering, biological, technological and biochemical processes of beverage production and brewing.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    First of all, you need a higher education entrance qualification to study at TUM. This can either be a qualified secondary school diploma or sufficient professional qualification.
    • Your schooling must comprise 12 consecutive school years.
    • You have to fulfill the curricular requirements set out by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (Kultusministerkonferenz). For more information, please consult the legally binding regulations can be found in the  resolution of the Kultusministerkonferenz (German PDF, 156kb).
    • Please note that only an IB with German A as Higher Level is recognized as proof of German language skills. Otherwise, you need so supply separate proof of sufficient German skills with your application at TUM.

    English Program Requirements

    All degree programs at TUM Informatics require proof of proficiency in German, English, or both. 

    Check TUM’s central admissions website for information on accepted language proficiency certificates here. 

    Please remember that you often will need to sign up for language tests several months in advance.

    Should you have no knowledge in German at all, you should plan to devote approximately 9 to 12 months to intensive courses in order to reach the required level. You must be able to prove proficiency in the relevant language for your program in order to be admitted.

    For Master's applications at the department of Informatics: if the language of instruction of your Bachelor's degree was English (100%), this can be accepted as English language proof for the Master's application. 
    Bachelor's thesis written in English can also be accepted as English proof. In this case a document from your university (

    Career

    • Most students continue their studies after completing the Bachelor's degree with the consecutive Master's degree in Brewing and Beverage Technology. Graduates find jobs mainly in the beverage industry
    • breweries or malting plants
    • but also in the food and chemical industries
    • as well as in plant construction. The possible tasks in the later occupation could be: Organization
    • monitoring and optimization of production processes Quality assurance during ongoing production operation Organization of the associated operating technology Planning and projecting of new plants Development of new manufacturing processes Purchasing and assessment of raw materials

    How to Apply

    You need to apply for a preliminary documentation (VPD)via the uni-assist web portal. You will need to send all required documents to uni-assist as hardcopies by post.

    During the online application at uni-assist, choose the Technische Universität Münchenand the option “all degree courses” (“Alle Fächer”). Do not choose a specific program.

    You can have your documents reviewed by uni-assist any time of the year. Please note, however, that the application deadline at TUM must be met.

    Please be aware that an application for a preliminary documentation (VPD) does not count as an application to TUM. You need to apply for your desired degree program via TUMonline as well.
