BSc (Hons) Applied Animal Science Top-Up Degree

    About

The aim of this course is to give you a sound knowledge of animal science and its applications. You'll learn practical and laboratory skills and develop an understanding of the environmental, ethical and economic contexts in which the sector operates.

You'll discover how animal science helps improve the productivity and sustainability of livestock production systems and control disease epidemics. And you'll learn how it can be used to raise standards of animal welfare, and to enhance wildlife biodiversity.

The top-up degree course is offered at our Barony campus - you enter with a related HND or equivalent and study years 3 and 4 of our degree programme, graduating with an Honours degree.

Entry into Year 3 of our Applied Animal Science degree is also possible at other SRUC campuses - see Applied Animal Science for details.

This course offers an understanding of animal science and its applications, and a foundation in biological principles as well as practical and laboratory skills.

This degree course studies the growth, nutrition, reproduction, health, welfare and behaviour of animals, with a particular focus on farm livestock.

You'll also gain an understanding of the environmental, ethical and economic contexts in which the sector operates.

As well as practical skills and knowledge, you'll learn how you could contribute to some of the issues that affect the modern world.

We'll look at the potential impact of future demands from our growing population against a background of climate change. And we'll examine the role that animal sciences, and those that study them, can have in addressing that impact.
