    The undergraduate bachelor's degree program in chemical engineering at Clarkson offers a unique and personalized educational environment designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the chemical engineering principles.

    Specializing in applications of these principles in materials engineering, environmental engineering and biomedical engineering through minors and concentrations is also possible.

    Small class sizes and low student to faculty ratios allow close interaction with the department faculty that have a combined expertise in all modern areas of chemical engineering. As a student in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) department, you'll have the opportunity to work on research projects for course credits that lay the groundwork for success in applied research and development.     We understand that some schools are using the pass/fail grading system. When reviewing applications, our admissions team is reading your application holistically. We look at course load, course type, letters of recommendation, and all four years of high school to gain a better academic picture of the applicant. Pass/fail will not negatively impact your application to Clarkson!

    According to PayScale, the average chemical engineer salary is over $74,400 per year. Students who graduated in 2020 from Clarkson's chemical engineering program boasted an average starting salary of over $64,300, with the highest starting salary at $75,000. Our graduates have recently gone on to work for companies such as Alcoa, Anheuser-Busch, Corning, Dow Chemical, Estee Lauder Companies, Globalfoundries, Indium Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Merck, Momentive Performance Materials, Plug Power, Proctor & Gamble and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. 

    Students looking to continue their education can do so through master's and Ph.D. programs, including Clarkson's own M.S. and Ph.D. programs in chemical engineering. Chemical engineering majors have also gone on to graduate programs at institutions such as Cornell University, George Mason University, University of Massachusetts - Amherst, University of Virginia and Villanova University.

    These application instructions are for non-U.S. citizens applying for first-year enrollment at Clarkson. If you have already earned some university credit, you should apply as a transfer student. To review your application, we need to receive all of the following materials and information according to Clarkson’s admission dates and deadlines:

    • Clarkson University Freshman Application or Common App 
    • Official secondary school transcript, mark sheets, or national exam scores.
    • Two letters of recommendation.
    • Test Optional-Official SAT/ACT scores, if submitted the scores will be taken into consideration during the admissions process.

    • Official English proficiency test scores. Here is the link for countries with English testing waivers. Acceptable tests and minimum scores are:
      • TOEFL, 80
      • IELTS, 6.5

    Step Three

    Applicants for admission who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents (green card holders) are likely to need to secure a student visa. (Students on certain visas may not require a student visa; please refer to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program document Who Can Study?)

    For issuance of an I-20, students must show proof of financial support. There are two ways to show proof of finances:

    1. Complete and return the Certificate of Finance Form included in our application packet or downloadable from our Web site. On this form you will need to show specific amounts of support and the sources of the support. You will also need to include the signatures of any sponsors or your parents, in addition to a signature from a bank official; or
    2. Provide a certified letter from your sponsor indicating the amount of support available for each year along with a supporting letter from a bank official.
